JOURNEY TO PENTECOST: DAY 11

JOURNEY TO PENTECOST: DAY 11

Verse of the Day: Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope!”

Pray today for the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit fill the hearts of the faithful and renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Words of eternal life

As he continues teaching on the bread of life, many disciples begin to leave.  “This saying is hard; who can accept it?”  Jesus keeps intensifying the language. He knew that some would not believe in the Eucharist  no matter what. Some would rather leave him for their former way of life. Some would prefer darkness and error, cheap ways, manipulations, and lies. Together with St. Peter, the Catholic Church continues to celebrate the Eucharist as the source and summit of our life. "

To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

Yes, in the Eucharist, we partake in the whole mystery of God's love for us.

Jesus, I trust in you!

JOURNEY TO PENTECOST: DAY 10

Verse of the Day: John 16:7

“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.”

Holy Spirit fill the hearts of the faithful and renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Unless you eat my flesh

This statement of Jesus brought about a serious quarrel among the Jewish people. They were forbidden to eat blood, for the blood is life. It is forbidden to eat the life with the meat (cf. Deut 12:23). Yet, the aim of Jesus is to turn their hearts to the true purpose of living. That is why he says: “Unless you eat my flesh.” Christ gives no option but to condition our existence by feeding on his flesh. No wonder, St. Thomas Aquinas reminds us that, “Although in all of the sacraments the power of Christ is present, in the Eucharist Christ himself is present”. The Eucharist is central in our life and vital for our survival.

St. Leo, the Great, pray for us!

Thursday of the Third Week of Easter John 6:44-51

May 8, 2025 Emily Arthur

Thursday of the Third Week of Easter John 6:44-51

When Jesus says I'm the bread of life, he means that eternal life is found in receiving him through faith and the Eucharist. Today's passage emphasizes the power of the Holy Spirit in drawing people to Christ. As he draws us, we are invited to recognize and embrace God's grace. The Father is the power of attraction that draws individuals to Christ. By accepting Jesus, he becomes for us, the source of life and the living bread that sustains us for eternal life. Father, by mercy, draw us to your son, Jesus Christ!

Day 8. John 15:26

“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.

Come the Holy Spirit fill the hearts of the faithful and renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Wednesday of the 3rd week of Easter.

Jesus says: "I' am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."

St. John Paul II in Ecclesia de Eucharistia reminds us that the Eucharist is the very life and soul of the Church. In the Eucharist, Christ is truly present. When we feed on the Eucharist, we are transformed; we are christenized, that is why we receive from it eternal life. The Eucharist anticipates our eternal banquet with God.

Do we truly believe in hidden Christ present among us in the Eucharist?

Jesus, I trust in you

Focus on Jesus and not on the sign

Today's readings invite each of us to focus on Christ whom the signs of mana are pointing at. The mana was not the end, but Christ, who is living bread in the Eucharist. We should be able to seek the Giver more than the gift. When our prayers go unanswered or signs do not appear, it is precisely in those moments that faith matures. Like the psalmist and Stephen, we learn to entrust our spirit into God's hands, finding joy not in what we see, but in Whom we trust. Seeking Christ Himself, rather than merely His signs, is the mark of a mature and authentic faith.

Lord, into your hand, I command my spirit.

Monday of the Third Week of Easter
John 6:22-29.

The works of God

“What can we do to accomplish the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.” The primary action God requires from us is to have faith in Jesus Christ, his Son Whom he sent to redeem us. To believe is not just a simple mental assent but a deep, personal trust and reliance on Jesus. Faith in Christ is the foundation of our relationship with God and the basis for salvation. "And without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."(Hebrews 11:6)

Verse of the Day: Joel 2:28

Saturday of the 2nd week of Easter. John 14:6-14. Philip and James, Apostles.

May 3, 2025 Emily Arthur

This feast reminds us that our true satisfaction does not depend on material things, money, hedonistic life or our fame and power, but true satisfaction is having Jesus in our life. “Show us the Father and we shall be satisfied”, Philip says to Jesus. Indeed, Jesus is our satisfaction and the true rest of our soul. Only the creator of our soul can give us true fulfilment. Our daily life must become a restless search for God. “Lord you are my God. For you my heart is thirsting. (Ps 62:1). Anyone who searches for Jesus, will find him and he will give them eternal life.

Happy feast of St. Philip and St. James the Lesser

Be a blessing for others

We remember today St Athanasius, “the Father of othodoxy” as he worked so hard to counter heresies in the early Church. As a young deacon, at the Council of Nicaea, Athanasius helped set down the true teaching of the Church that Jesus Christ is true God and true man. The multiplication of loaves in today’s gospel, for St. Athanasius clearly foreshadows the Eucharist, i.e., the Holy Communion. Through the eucharist, Jesus offers eternal life and becomes himself the "true bread from heaven", that satisfies the hunger of the human heart. May we like Jesus become the bread for the life of others. Like the young boy in the gospel, we are invited to conquer the sin of greed and become a blessing for others.

Jesus, I trust in you!

"And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

Thursday, May 1, St. Joseph, the Worker. John 3:31-36

May 1, 2025 Emily Arthur

Jesus came to teach about the things above. God wants us to set our eyes to heavenly things. Joseph understood this, and he did not allow his earthly ambitions to abstract the plan of God. Joseph obeyed God's word. Therefore, God blessed him with the gift of eternal life. The Apostles in the first reading prefer to die rather than to disobey God. May our lives be in constant obedience to God's will as St. Joseph's did. Scriptures in Romans 10:11 remind us that "those who trust in the Lord will never be put to shame." Obedience is truly the mark of the heavenly wisdom.
St. Joseph patron of workers, pray for us!

Jesus, I trust in you.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and renew the face of the earth. Amen.

Love that conquers darkness

Love is the synthesis of the Gospel. The sacrificial love of God for all mankind is unconditional, and it is expressed in the death of Jesus. All we need is to open our hearts to God's love. Accepting Christ and believing in him opens for us the door of salvation that no power of darkness can shut again. By following Christ's way of life, we overcome the darkness of this world. Let's live as children love and the light of Christ will shine in the world.

Jesus, I trust in you!
