5th day within the Octave of the nativity. 1 John 2:3-11; Luke 2:22-35

January 16, 2026 Holy Redeemer Church

On this 5th day within the Octave of the nativity, we reflect on the gospel of Jesus' presentation in the temple. Jesus offered himself to the Father in order to bring humanity back to God. The old prophet Simeon is the witness representing humanity, awaiting for the Messiah. Jesus is God's son for all nations; he is the source of our eternal salvation. However, this salvation depends on our acceptance or rejection of Him. Hence he is a sign that opposes darkness and shows us the light. If we follow the commandment of love, we are already walking in the light, but if we pretend to love God but hate one another, we remain in darkness and we are liars. Let's choose to remain faithful to the Lord, serving him through our brothers and sisters all the days of our lives.

Jesus, I trust in you

Fr. Georges sac
