From today's Gospel, we can see ourselves as this paralytic man as the term carries a deeper symbolic biblical meaning than just the physical inability to move. We all can find ourselves in situations of spiritual helplessness, sin's bondage, or in the need for divine intervention for restoration and wholeness. By healing and forgiving the paralytic's sins, Jesus makes it clear that we are in need of more than just physical cure or superficial attentiveness, but more deeper healing and restoration. In today's Gospel of Mark 2:1-12 as well as the healing of the man at the Pool of Bethesda in John 5:1-15, true wholeness and restoration begin when man allows God to touch his heart. Just like the paralytic was invited to take up his mat and walk, Jesus invites every one to rise, take responsibility of their lives and walk again with joy. Lord I reaffirm your authority today over my entire life, spiritual and physical.
Immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us!
