Wednesday of the 27th week , year c. Luke 11:1-4
Prayer for Jesus was not a duty but a relationship and a communion of love with his Father, and the disciples had made notice of that. So, they wanted him to teach them to pray. By teaching us the prayer of "our Father", Jesus wanted us to live continuously in that relationship with the Father. The prayer begins with adoration, moves to submission, and ends with repentance. Jesus is teaching us to surrender from control to trust. As we this, we learn to shape our own desires by submitting to the Father's. True prayer is not about manipulation of God's will but transformation of our own heart. To pray as Jesus pray is to live as Jesus lived in humility and trust and in obedience to his Father's will. May we make prayer a moment of our daily returning to the Father's heart. Saint Padre Pio teaches that: "Prayer is the oxygen of our soul."
